Shane Kinkennon, principal of
Kinkennon Communications,
is a consultant to Public Strategies Washington. Shane
helps former White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry serve his
corporate and nonprofit clients. Named in late 2009 by a
high-profile PR industry blogger as one of “100 PR people worth
following on Twitter,” Shane increasingly helps leaders of
traditional public affairs operations understand the role of
social media community-building in shaping perceptions around
fast-moving issues.
Shane is a skilled writer, communications planner, and
campaign manager, with a penchanct for centrist politics.
He has helped the United Methodist Church diffuse rancor around
divisive social issues and re-engage in its global mission of
world transformation. He has generated news stories for
charitable foundations, nonprofit organizations, technology
companies, and even a third-party presidential campaign in media
outlets including Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Los
Angeles Times, and NEWSWEEK. In his diverse portfolio he has
run a $9 million dollar marketing-communications operation for a
technology company, built a $1 million booth for the Detroit
Auto Show, run the food industry’s largest anti-obesity
coalition Washington, and written award-winning advertising copy
for billboards in Time Square.
As a volunteer, he serves on the board of directors of
Bicycle Colorado, and on the board of directors of the Gay &
Lesbian Victory Fund and Leadership Institute, where he is
chair of the organization’s five year strategic-planning task
force.
